In which cases might Auto-Cut struggle?
ℹ️ Auto-Cut is designed to handle a wide variety of recording scenarios and delivers highly reliable results in most cases. Like any advanced tool, there are a few edge cases where it may face challenges. Knowing these helps you get the very best out of your workflow and ensures maximum accuracy.

| Re-takes or noises that are are combined with the aborted sentence | If a repetition or noise is combined with the passage before or directly follows without the sightest gap, Narrafix might leave it in. Please note that also for human editors, this might cause unnecessary work and undesirable editing results. |
Leave at least a small pause (0.5s will be already enough!) before you start a retake. Alternatively, you can delete the remaining retakes in Narrafix Studio. |
| Jumping back in the script for a very long passage | Auto-Cut’s repetition detection has a cutoff (approx. 2 minutes) to avoid false cuts. If you jump back more than that, it might not catch the repeated part. We have this limitation as a trade-off to avoid false cuts. | Avoid very long jumps. Instead, restart from the beginning of a phrase. Or manually remove the redundant section before uploading. You can also fix it later in Narrafix Studio. |
| Intra-sentence word corrections | If you misread a word in the middle of a sentence and immediately repeat the correct word, Auto-Cut may keep both versions (or fail to remove the misread). Please note that also with human editors, this might cause unnecessary work and an undesirable speech flow. |

| Changing the order of passages | If you repeat a segment that belongs elsewhere in the chapter, Auto-Cut can’t relocate it (i.e. it doesn’t “copy & paste” passages). We have this limitation as a trade-off to avoid false cuts. | When re-reading, aim to jump to the correct spot (in recording) before doing a retake. Or flag and fix such cases in Narrafix during the pickup phase. |
| Passages read in a languages other than the main language | Narrafix works great with specific words or proper nouns/names in other laguages or with unusual pronunciations. However, currently entire passages that are read in a secondary language other than English or French might lead more unreliable results that expected, since Narrafix will try to phonetically interpret it in the main language. | Please use Narrafix Studio to restore passages that might be erroneously cut. |
| Intentional noises and non-scripted filler words | If coughs or filler words like "ehhrrmm" are not immediately followed by a word, there might be cut out since Narrafix might interpret them as unwanted noises. | Make sure those fillers have no gap between the following words if acting allows. Otherwise, you can fix the edit in Narrafix Studio. |
| Intentional long pauses | If a pause longer than 2-3 seconds between words/passages is in the recording, Narrafix might shorten it to around 2 seconds. | Large deviations from the script | While small deviations in narration from the script can easily be compensated by the intelligent logic in Narrafix, heavy deviations and alternations from the script (i.e. completely new or rewritten passages) can lead to poor editing results. | Stick as closely as possible to the script, or update the script to match your reading before uploading. | Strong dialects or heavy accents | While Narrafix works great with accents and mild dialects, it might have poorer results that expected with dialecty that heavily differ phonetically from the standard pronunciation. | After processing, review suspect sections and restore any bad cuts using Narrafix Studio. |
| Retakes and sentences across files / Very short files | Avoid uploading single-sentence or very short files where sentences or retakes strech across two files — Narrafix does not cut across multiple files, so context can get lost. | Make sure you upload the files in bigger chunks (we recommend per chaper) and that sentences and retakes do not strech over two files. |

In everyday studio practice, these situations are rare—and when they occur, they’re easy to address with small adjustments.
