What’s the best way to record or insert pickups and corrections after editing in Narrafix?

Narrafix takes care of the editing and proofing stage of audiobook production - cutting, cleaning, and aligning your recordings automatically. Once that part is done, it’s your turn again: recording any pickups or corrections and preparing the final version for mastering or delivery.

👉 Here’s how to do that in the smoothest, most efficient way.

1. Download your results from Narrafix Studio

The easiest way is to download your edited WAV files directly from Narrafix Studio. WAV is the preferred format because it’s universal and ensures full audio quality across all DAWs (digital audio workstations). If you like, you can also:

  • Export an AAF file (for Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and other AAF-compatible software).
  • Export an RPP file if you work in Reaper — it opens natively there.

Optional: Using WAV-Markers

If your WAD software supports reading embedded markers, you’ll see them appear automatically in your session - super handy for quickly finding flagged or corrected spots. DAWs that display embedded markers include Reaper, Steinberg Cubase (v14+), Wavelab, and Logic Pro. (See the full compatability list here).

2. Open the file in your audio software

Once downloaded, open the WAV file in your preferred DAW (for example, Reaper, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc.). To keep everything aligned, move the file to start at 00:00:00 in your timeline. This way, all timecodes match perfectly with what you see in Narrafix Studio.

You can keep Narrafix Studio open as a reference alongside with your audio software. Now you’re ready to record pickups or corrections!

3. Record your pickups or corrections

Record new takes in your own DAW just like you normally would. Keep Narrafix Studio open as a reference alongside with your audio software in another window or screen, so you can easily work your way through the markers, as you have everything available in this view that you'll need, including the synced script!

You can:

  • Record on a new track for clarity.
  • Use the existing track as a reference and align your new takes visually or by ear.
  • Trim and name the new files for easy handling later.

In summary:

  • Narrafix handles the editing and proofing – you handle the pickups and finishing touches.
  • Download the WAV files (recommended) from Narrafix Studio.
  • Open them in your DAW, align to 00:00:00 for matching timecodes.
  • Record your pickups directly there.
  • Optionally, use markers for guidance.

With this workflow, you keep the flexibility of your DAW while taking full advantage of Narrafix’s automation — fast, simple, and completely in sync.
