How do I add and work with room tone in Narrafix?

Some engineers and publishers prefer to work with room tone for more natural pauses, no not have artificial “dead silence” and  a consistent background sound across edits

You can easily add a room tone file directly inside Narrafix Studio to improve the natural sound of your edits, especially in pauses or transitions.

How room tone works in Narrafix

Once a room tone file is added, Narrafix will use it automatically throughout your edits:

  • Inserted Pauses:

Any silence added in Narrafix Studio will use your room tone instead of digital silence.

  • Natural fades:

Fade-ins and fade-outs will no longer go to or come from digital silence.

Instead, they will fade into and out of the room tone, creating a much more natural sound.

How to add a room tone file

  1. Open your project in Narrafix Studio.
  2. In the waveform view, locate the toolbar below the waveform.
  3. Click the ⚙️ Settings on the right side.
  4. Open “Advanced Settings.”

Here, you can upload a room tone file:

  • For the currently selected file

→ Applies only to that specific audio file

  • For the entire project

→ Applies the same room tone across all files

⚠️ Important note: If you add a room tone file for the entire project, it will overwrite any room tone files already assigned to individual files.
