How does Narrafix handle retakes of longer passages?
Narrafix Auto-Cut is designed to automatically detect and replace retakes — but there is an important technical detail to understand when repeating longer passages.
🎯 The context window for retakes
Narrafix uses a defined context window of approximately two minutes to detect repeated passages.
Why? Because extending this window further would significantly increase the risk of false positives — meaning parts of the audio could be incorrectly interpreted as retakes when they are not.
So the system balances accuracy and reliability by limiting the detection range.
🔁 What happens when you repeat a passage?
✅ If the repeated passage is under ~2 minutes (e.g. 1:50 min)
- Narrafix will detect the repetition.
- It will automatically select the second (final) take.
- It will also apply normal Auto-Cut improvements inside that take (removing small errors, pauses, etc.).
In this case, everything works exactly as expected.
⚠️ If the repeated passage is longer than ~2 minutes
If you repeat a longer section (for example 3–4 minutes):
- Narrafix may not interpret the entire section as one retake.
- Both versions may remain in the edit.
- However, Auto-Cut will still clean up mistakes within each individual passage.
This is intentional and prevents incorrect large-scale deletions.
✂️ What if both passages remain?
If you notice that both versions are still present:
- Open your project in Narrafix Studio.
- Locate the repeated section in the waveform.
- Simply remove the entire passage you don’t want to keep.
- Keep the preferred version.
This can be done quickly and non-destructively inside Studio.
✅ Summary
- Narrafix detects retakes within a ~2-minute context window.
- Retakes shorter than ~2 minutes are automatically replaced with the final version.
- Longer repeated passages may remain twice.
- If that happens, you can easily remove the unwanted version in Narrafix Studio.
This approach ensures maximum reliability while avoiding incorrect deletions in longer recordings.
